President Biya Announces Plans to Recruit Ten Thousand Medical Professionals
In his annual message to the Cameroonian people, President Biya's announced the recruitment of 10,000 nurses and other healthcare professionals within a 5 years period. This announcement is a significant step towards improving medical staffing and reducing unemployment among youths in Cameroon. This move is crucial in addressing the country's healthcare challenges, particularly in rural areas where access to quality healthcare is limited. According to the World Health Organization, Cameroon faces a critical shortage of healthcare personnel, with only 11 qualified health workers for every 10,000 population, which is well below the recommended threshold of 22.3 qualified personnel for every 10,000 population.
The recruitment of 10,000 nurses and other healthcare professionals is also expected to have a positive impact on the country's economy, as it will create jobs and stimulate economic growth. Moreover, it will help reduce the brain drain of healthcare professionals to other countries, which has been a significant challenge for Cameroon's healthcare system.
